So you’ve just been offered a job from a company that would require moving to a new city. There are good reasons to relocate for a job, but there are also terrible ones. Here are the top five reasons not to move to a new city for a new position.

1. Slight Pay Increase

Changing jobs can be tempting, but moving to a new city for a nominal pay raise may not be worth the hassle. For instance, if you make $50k in your current job and you get an offer that pays you an extra $3k. $3,000 annually works out to be $250 a month, before taxes. How far is that $250 going to go in your new city? Make sure you know the cost of living in the area before accepting the job and agreeing to relocate.

2. When The Sale of Your Current Home Will Lose Money

If your current city is experiencing a weak housing market, it may not make sense to move for a job. Let’s say you purchased your home five years ago during a housing boom, and you paid $250k. However, now you can only get $225k. You’re in the red $25k before your first day of work on the new job. Unless the new job is an excellent opportunity to advance your career or a significant pay raise, then you probably shouldn’t relocate for a job.

3. The New Job Doesn’t Advance Your Career

If you are a mid-level manager in your current job, does it make sense to get into the same position in a job across the state? In the majority of cases, probably not. You probably shouldn’t even make lateral moves to a new job if you don’t have to move, it especially doesn’t make sense when you add having to move to a new town.

4. Your Significant Other Isn’t on Board

Moving to a new job in a different city is challenging enough, but dragging an unwilling mate with you can be a nightmare. Getting your wife or husband fully on board is vital to not only a good move but also to a healthy relationship. While you may be able to talk your significant other into a move you have to ask yourself if they are fully invested. If they are not, then you are creating a long-lasting headache that can tear apart your home life.

5. Thinking a Change of Scenery Will Cheer You Up

In everybody’s life there are low points where nothing seems to be going right. Depression can set in and it may seem tempting to change our surroundings thinking that your problems are external, but that isn’t always the case. If you move to get away from your problems but your problems are actually internal then your issues will follow you to the new town. Many times if you wait it out those “insurmountable” problems you thought you had resolved themselves. Don’t act too quickly before you know that a move will make the difference.

Whether it’s the food takeaway industry utilising mobile apps or sports events using video assisted refereeing, technological advances are helping our world progress and become better. Computer systems, such as CRMs, can help you plan out your workload as efficiently as possible, while analytics allow you to judge what updates are needed. With this in mind, it’s clear that technology is evolving across every business, allowing companies to become more productive and efficient.

The introduction of Drones

As well as making sure the equipment is still in a good enough condition, the drones are providing the company with video and still footage that can be stored to allow the plant to compare its findings over a period of time to monitor any changes or patterns that are noticeable. This has become an indispensable tool for the factory, with the drones greatly improving productivity and efficiency.

Ford has started to use drones to help perform risky inspections on the factory’s equipment in it’s Dagenham engine plant. The company is benefitting massively, saving almost 12 hours on each inspection and reducing the time it takes to check the equipment from 12 hours to 12 minutes. Not only can drones provide a quick and thorough inspection, but they eliminate the health and safety risk of someone needing to scale up to 150 feet to look at gantries.

Printing advancements

Human error can be extremely costly. That’s where 3D printing can come into play. While it’s still early days for the technology, it has the potential to have a massive impact on practicality. It’s expected that this invention will transform nearly every industry as it changes how manufacturers will do business and will impact material costs, the traditional assembly line and product pricing strategies.

The use of robotics isn’t aimed at replacing humans, but more so making employees’ jobs easier. Automated printers for example, like those used by Voodoo Manufacturing, don’t need to be manned anymore and can continue working 24 hours a day.

Bodysuits

While such suits were more likely to appear on the big screen in movies such as Iron Man just a few years ago, the creation of bodysuits is having positive feedback from its users, with many claiming they aren’t as sore after a shift if they’ve been wearing the technology.

Ford’s Michigan plant is also using innovative technological developments to help its workforce. It was announced in 2017 that line workers in the plant would pilot exoskeleton suits — wearable technology that can help support a worker’s arms while they undergo tasks above their heads. These suits can also be adjusted to support different weights, depending on the wearer’s needs.

Metrology

The process of quality control can traditionally be a very time-consuming and expensive project. There would be randomly selected machine-made parts that would be individually tested, and if they passed the test, the batch it came from would be validated.

This process can’t be too reliable, as faulty parts may well be produced in a batch and slip through after the checks. That’s why the ever-improving embedded metrology will continue to help manufacturers produce a better product. This quick and convenient solution is a lot more accurate and requires little human interference.

In the future, it’s anticipated that this human aspect can be removed completely, with technology helping to provide a fully integrated and fully automated form of quality control. While some of the public are concerned that jobs will be lost as it keeps progressing, it can only be a good thing for manufacturing companies as it continues to help improve productivity and efficiency. It will be interesting to see what we welcome to factories next!

Technology is continuing to amaze us in all walks of life. The automotive industry is no different, either, taking advantage of new inventions. It’s not only our cars that are benefitting from technological advances, though — the manufacturing industry is, too. Lookers, who offer a variety of vehicles such as the used Ford Focus, is an example of this.

2020 is here, knocking at our doorstep. How prepared are we for the tech revolution? Robots, AI and intelligent assistants are set to become common at our workplace. But do they have what it takes to edge employees out?

Fourth industrial revolution: we’re living in this era today. While technology advancements are moving at breakneck speed, it is also predicted that AI will be replacing nearly 5 million jobs by 2020, this will be taken over by automated machines.

With a multitude of changes in artificial intelligence, companies will need more and more AI experts to drive economic growth.

Thriving tech skills needed in 2020: –

  • Big data analytics

The humongous rise of data has led to the emergence of data science which further segregates itself into machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence.

By 2020, there will be increased job postings by 364,000 to 2,720,000 as forecasted by IBM. And this job surge is predicted to rise to 700,000 job openings. It is also predicted that the demand in big data analytics itself will take a jump of 28% in 2020.

  • Machine learning and AI

According to Gartner, 2020 will a promising year for AI and job dynamics in the sector. It is also predicted that machine learning and artificial intelligence alone will garner job opportunities of near about 1.4 million. To bridge the gap or fill in the lacunae, AI experts will need to take up additional upskilling programs or training programs to keep themselves upgraded.

To procure a job in the AI field, the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering or probable experience in programming languages such as Python, C, R, Java, JavaScript, and SQL.

Also, based on a report on the AI talent, it is seen that there’s a 119% of AI job increase, especially in sectors such as finance, transportation, manufacturing, healthcare, customer service, and retail.

For someone looking to thrive in this field, upgrading oneself through the best AI certifications available through online programs will be an emerging set of employment for the individual.

  • Cybersecurity

Security experts are a must for every company and industry, despite the size and nature of the organization. As companies combat daily battles against cyber attackers, cybersecurity is the need of the hour. And if the predictions are right, cybercrimes are set to damage USD 6 trillion worldwide property in the next two years (2021).

Thus, job opportunities in this field are flooded impacting nearly 74% of organizations. Although the jobs are in high demand, due to the deficit of talent, these job roles remained unfilled for three years in a row now. In such situations, the demand for professionals in cybersecurity will remain unchanged.

Certain job roles that are in high demand in this field include ethical hacker, vulnerability analyst or penetration tester, information security analyst, digital forensic analyst, chief information security officer (CISO), security software developer, incident handler, and security architect.

  • Blockchain

Though still new in the tech market, Blockchain is set to become one of the most sought after job skills by most organizations. During the beginning of 2019, Hired, an online job site search reported stating that blockchain engineers were in-demand with a growth of 200% with a year-on-year growth. This technology has moved far beyond the banking sector.

Blockchain technology is now adopted by industries like healthcare, logistics, insurance, transportation, digital payments, and gaming. The demand for blockchain professionals exceeded by 115% between 2016-2017 and is projected to grow USD 7.7 billion by the year 2022.

For workers looking to get into blockchain should possess skills in JavaScript, C++. NodeJS, Go RESTful, Python, Java, ReactJS, Solidity, machine learning, and cryptography.

Any recruiter knows that gaining an insight into both your clients and candidates is the key to being successful. Without even realising it, recruiters apply certain aspects of both Industrial and Organisational Psychology. It’s about getting to know the emotions and pathologies of your candidates to ensure you place them in the right role. With the decrease in the number of candidates available in the global talent pool, recruiters are having to get to grips with more complicated theories of motivation, the emotional world of the candidates, job satisfaction in a changing work landscape, and constantly changing interview processes.

Behind the Scenes

Balancing the needs and motivations of candidates and defining the culture of clients requires a level of understanding of the human psyche, not all people are able to employ effectively. A successful recruiter will employ varying psychological strategies as part of the natural course of their role. This often involves delving into aspects of a candidates personality, personal values, attitudes, leadership style, managerial judgement, emotional intelligence and cognitive abilities. And when it comes to clients, each company will have its own unique culture and values, which recruiters need to fully understand in order to place the right candidate in order to avoid the dreaded rebate.

Secret Techniques

Persuasion techniques are employed constantly throughout a recruiters working day, right from the moment fees are agreed and interviews are arranged. This type of technique is adapted to fit both sides of the recruitment process to try and ensure clients and candidates “meet” in the middle. Salary negotiations rely heavily on persuasion techniques, as this could be the difference between filling the role or losing the placement.

Social Influence or compliance techniques are often used when communicating with candidates about the interview process they’ll be taking part in, to ensure they deliver some of the key points you know your client is expecting to see.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is making a name for itself as a coaching technique but it’s underlying principle of changing perceptions is, literally, second nature to successful recruiters. Getting your candidate in the door before someone elses, and explaining the people and the company you want your candidate to interview for, requires a high level of NLP, in order to change subconscious, preconceived biases.

I’m sure recruiters can identify with these techniques and, hopefully, recognise the level of psychology they utilise on a daily basis.

If you want to embark upon a lucrative career but are worried that you don’t have the education or qualifications to land a good job, you’ll be pleased to know that there are open positions that will provide training on the job. Learning the skills that you need to succeed while you work will allow you to earn a living while gaining a valuable education in the field that could lead to other career opportunities in higher positions in the future. Any of these four career paths can provide training on the job.

Real Estate Agent

Obtaining a real estate agent license that will allow you to help clients buy and sell homes can be done by passing an examination. Once you’ve passed this test, you can try getting hired at a real estate firm that will show you the ins and outs of the industry even if you have no previous work experience in the field. After you’ve learned everything that there is to know about buying and selling a home, you can choose to either remain at the firm or go off on your own to work independently.

Hazardous Materials Shipping Specialist

In this position, you’ll be responsible for shipping hazardous materials safely so that no contaminants from the substances harm the environment or anyone’s health. High Q is just one of many training centers that provides detailed instructions on how to ship specimens with dry ice correctly along with medical specimens that require special handling. Your employer should also provide the required safety apparel and other equipment that’s needed to keep you safe on the job.

Sales Representative

If you’ve never sold anything in your life, you may still get hired as a sales representative to help businesses sell certain products or services. This field can be highly competitive, and you’ll be motivated to learn more by working in direct competition with other representatives who are trying to earn commissions on sales. Customer service skills and how to solve problems quickly will all be taught to you as you begin your on-the-job education in this field.

Construction Worker

Everything from proper tool handling to workplace safety protocol will be taught to you when you work for a construction company that provides on-the-job training. With the right training, you’ll play a valuable role in the construction of buildings, roadways and other important structures that are essential for a developing society. Even though you’ll likely be required to work in all types of weather conditions and during less-than-ideal hours, the pay and job security that you can enjoy as a construction worker will be worth the hardship.

Oftentimes, getting into the right career field can be as simple as showing a willingness to learn the tricks of the trade as you work. With the right amount of on-the-job training, you’ll be able to work in a field that suits your interest and gives you the job security that you’re craving.

Performance analysis focuses typically on how well each employee is performing key job tasks. HR can observe the employee’s performance on a regular basis to conduct a performance analysis. Traditionally, performance analysis has involved an employee and that employee’s immediate supervisor. Depending on the nature of an individual’s work, that employee’s peers, customers, and subordinates may also be in a position to provide information that can be used to identify that employee’s performance. In fact, an evaluation approach called 360 degree performance appraisal uses as many of the sources as possible to get a complete picture of an employee’s performance.

The sources for performance analysis data include employee performance evaluation, direct observation, and questionnaires as sources of information available for employee assessment.

Here is the guide that the organization must have these data sources for performance analysis and metrics for analyzing employee performance assessment.

1. Performance Appraisal Data – Include weaknesses and areas of improvement as well as strong points; easy to analyze and quantify for purposes of determining types of training needed. These data can be used to identify performance discrepancies.

2. Observation Work Sampling – More subjective technique but provides both employee behavior and results of the behavior.

3. Job Knowledge Skills – can be tailor-made or standardized so as to measure job-related qualities.

4. Survey Questionnaires – Preparing questions related to specific characteristics of the organization. These data can be useful in determining the morale, motivation, or satisfaction of each employee.

5. Checklists or Training Progress Charts – Up-to-date listing of each employee’s skills; indicates future training requirements for each job.

6. Training Sessions – Certain knowledge, skills, and attitudes are demonstrated in these techniques.

7. Rating– employee performance rating on a numerical scale of 1-5.

8. Assessment data – An intensive assessment program combining several of the above techniques.

9. One-on-one meeting – Meeting arrangement between an employee and that employee’s manager; this provides the manager’s feedback data.

10. Performance Review Data – Provides actual performance data on a recurring basis related to organization standards so that the baseline measurements may be known and subsequent improvement of performance may be identified and analyzed; this performance review is keyed to organization goals and objectives.

Conclusion

It is impossible to capture performance in one single employee performance metric. Most companies try to do this by asking managers and colleagues to review people’s performance, in a 360 degree feedback loop.

There should always be a balance between quantity metrics and quality metrics. This balance is measured in Work efficiency, as these metrics consider the resources like time and money (quantity) needed to produce a certain output (quality). It is hard to achieve this balance, which is one of the reasons a lot of companies struggle with rating employees and with the performance review practice itself.

The best metric is a combination of different qualitative and quantitative employee performance metrics, done by multiple people.

Performance metrics are often combined with recruitment data to predict which hires are most likely to be top performers. This is done by comparing candidates’ profiles with their performance a year later. Patterns in this data can be used as input to make better hiring decisions of new candidates.

You have options when it comes to finding a better paying position if you want to go into the construction industry. There are always people that are looking for quality employees that know the tools of the trade. Here are some of the ways that you can go about landing a higher pay grade.

Supply and Demand

The field of construction is often based on supply and demand. Certain areas of the country may be more likely to pay you a higher wage because of the need for construction workers in that area. Researching where the market is hot can give you an advantage in terms of how much you can take home. Another thing to consider is your level of expertise in the construction industry. Those that are certified or skilled are inherently more likely to earn more money.

Educate Yourself

Attending a trade school in order to develop your skillset is another method of improving your chances of getting a better paying position. Make sure to select a trade that will be in high demand, such as HVAC or electrical construction jobs. These types of fields will have jobs that are available and due to the level of skills that’s required, are going to pay better than just a general laborer position. A specialized field also means that you’re more likely to be a part of a union.

Use a Staffing Service

A staffing agency can even help you to find positions that make the desired amount that you want or will be able to guide you in the right direction for the amount that you’ll be paid. Using a staffing service to find construction jobs available is another means in which you can pick and choose the types of jobs that are of interest to you. Another good thing about using a service is that you can be more closely matched with a job for the skills that you currently possess.

Become Essential

Being considered a leader in your field means that you have an expanded skillset. This can mean that you’re always known for good quality work and that you use your supplies wisely. It also means that you’re capable of bidding out a job as accurately as possible. Making yourself essential bodes well for you getting good paying jobs because you have references and people that want to work with you.

A better paying position means that you need to showcase your skillset in some manner. Use these tips to help you along in your efforts.
