Faisal Hasan Mirza, the trained suicide bomber who arrived from Pakistan, is a cousin of Farooque Devediwala, who is accused in a bomb blast case in Gujarat, along with other criminal activities and is a close associate of Dawood Ibrahim.
Sources said, all the training camps across the borders are active and it has been revealed that several other Indians, too, have taken and are taking training there to carry out attacks in the country, as elections are approaching. The other youth are now under the scanner of Maharashtra ATS.
On Friday, a team of Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested Mirza from Mumbai for allegedly planning a terror attack in the city and other parts of the country after he underwent training at a terrorist camp in Pakistan. Sources said, Mirza was trained for suicide and lone wolf attack and revealed during the questioning that apart from him, several other Indians, too were/are being trained in the camps.
According to police, Davediwala, who has Interpol's red corner notice against him, is a cousin of Mirza and has been a close associate of Dawood for the past several years. Davediwala recruits people from India and sends them to Pakistan to get trained in using arms and ammunition, with the backing of the D-company, and Inter-services Intelligence (ISI).
Earlier this year, Mirza, a school drop-out with two children and working as a freelance electrician, was called by Davediwala to Sharjah. He provided Mirza logistical support in Sharjah and Dubai and had arranged his visit to Karachi on ISI's behest.
"In Pakistan, Mirza underwent training for two weeks, especially in bomb-making, handling firearms, and stabbing with butcher knife. They had trained him to become a suicide bomber and also a lone wolf attacker and he had plans to carry out attacks in three places in the country, including in Mumbai, parts in Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh," said a senior ATS officer.
"We are examining several angles and trying to ascertain what he would have been rewarded to carry out these attacks, and who the influential personalities on his hit list were.
The Delhi police in March this year had busted a similar module and we are looking at that, too," said another officer.
While explaining how Mirza went to Sharjah and tried to misguide the ATS when they nabbed him, an officer said, "He went to Sharjah on tourist visa and showed us that he has a job there. After reaching there, the handler (Davediawala) sent him to Pakistan."
He added, "The handler used a new technique to send him there. A flight ticket was booked from Dubai to Nairobi, which was going via Karachi; he asked him to get down there. This reveals the direct support of ISI, as generally, the flier is not allowed to get down midway. After around a month, he returned to Mumbai. On nabbing him, Mirza denied the allegations and said he was working there, but he did not like it, so he returned. When we asked him to show his passport he cooked up a story and said that he lost it while returning home. However we found it from his in-laws' home."
